The Sloped Site

After an initial visit to this beautiful marine-side property and having discussions with Mr S. it was soon apparent that what was currently there was totally inappropriate for his requirements.
There was a step from the patio door down to an old crumbling patio which was about 8ft in depth. This then dropped down by 2 further steps to an area of gravel. As a wheelchair user Mr S. found thins to be completely unusable and visually unattractive.
Our designer worked with the client to find out how he wanted to use this area, Mr S. wanted the garden to be converted into a place where he could have mobility to and from the house and down to the pontoon for boat access. He also wanted an attractive place that he could use to entertain that was in-keeping with the property.

Our designer, in consultation with Mr S., designed a deck that incorporated all the various needs requested. The deck was to be installed immediately beneath the threshold of the patio door, eliminating the original large drop from the property. We were able to accomplish this as unlike a solid patio, decking can be laid just below the damp proof course of the property because it allows drainage and air can still circulate properly. The deck was then extended out to create an area large enough to entertain on and also an ideal viewing platform for our client. Access to the pontoon was via a gentle ramp on one side and via shallow steps on the other. Once this design was fine tuned and approved by our client, he then chose from our extensive range of finishing touches to personalise his deck. He decided upon metal balustrades and a mix of blue and red LED lighting that is installed to lay flush with the deck surface.

Within a few weeks installation commenced. The work was completed with minimum disruption to Mr S. or to his neighbours, and the final result was a transformation from an inhospitable sloping area to a beautiful extension to the house, which is both practical and pleasurable to use. During the evening the LED lighting radiates a glow creating a gentle ambience that reflects in the water.
